Getting Clarity on the Mission of Jesus
Last time, we looked at the need to consider whether or not our parishes are set up to accomplish the mission the Lord entrusted to the Church. To best answer that we need to get clear on what that mission is. To do that, we first have to back up even further and get clear on the vision that animates the mission, for mission flows from vision.
Adjusting to a Time Change: From Christendom to Apostolic
For a number of years now, there has been a lot of talk in the Church about the need to move from maintenance to mission. A number of archdioceses and dioceses have embarked on efforts with similar but related names. “Retooling for Mission,” “Realigning Resources for Mission,” “Moving to Mission,” and “Unleash the Gospel” are but a few of the names of these efforts.
Welcome to the Trailer
Several years ago, when four of us on the ACTS XXIX team were serving together in parish ministry, we embarked on a rather large expansion of our campus. After literally years of trying to discern what we most needed, and how we were going to fund it, the day came when we finally broke ground. The excitement in the parish family was palpable, as we knew this expansion was going to greatly help us accomplish our vision of offering every person in our community a life-changing encounter with Jesus.
